BSC urges businesses to continue training

Date Posted: 21/10/2009

The British Safety Council has welocmed the deterent provided by the introduction of the Health and Safety Offences Act. Concerned that businesses should not cut back on training and systems for short term gain, it believes the Act will help strengthen awareness of the need to maintain vigourous risk controls and safety management systems to avoid costly payouts, fines and even imprisonment.

Whether a global business, a small business, a public body or a charitable or voluntary organisation, BSC is urging all organisations to ensure that their staff have the right training and information to understand and appreciate the risks they face at work and are taught how to manage the risk effectively. The British Safety Council concludes that the legal, moral, and Business justification for such a approach is overwhelming, regadless of the difficult times we are in.
